There is a segment of the population that is not unfamiliar with the sensation of their legs having gone to sleep as a result of too much time spent on the porcelain chair in the "library". Fortunately, the Bathroom Reader's Institute was founded a few years back and they have catered to us golfers by publishing Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Tees Off on Golf.

This is a highly entertaining mixture of golf highlights, history, humor, and the backgrounds of people and events that have given us golfers such a rich heritage.

I have always been interested in history, and while this is not a history volume, as such, it does include the history and traditions of the game, how they developed and who was involved. It tells of some of the biggest names in world history over the past 100 years and the interaction they had with golf. It tells of the sometimes heated, sometimes jovial rivalries between golfers and organizations. It relates the evolution of the rules of golf as we know them and the development of the ruling organizations. This book will keep you coming back to find out about embarrassing and costly moments in tournaments past and pages of some corny, some great golf jokes and anecdotes. You'll find yourself straining to read reports on the golf abilities (or lack of them) of celebrities, politicians, athletes and rankings of golf books and movies. It might even cause your friends to roll their eyes when you can't resist telling them another obscure fact.

I really like this book, and I highly recommend it. I'm pretty sure that you or the golfer in your life will like it too. Let me encourage you, though, to keep your readings brief. You don't want to find yourself in the awkward position of needing help to get off your reading chair...

By the way, over the last twenty years the Bathroom Reader's Institute has published an extensive list of books aimed at kids of all ages, including puzzle books and books for dog lovers, too.
